#MarioKarWorld looks awesome, from the gameplay, to the concept, even to the logo! I had originally said that they’d need more than #MarioKart 9 to get me interested in #Nintendo #Switch2 at launch (in particular, a 3D Mario). But I had never conceived that Nintendo would create an open world Kart game! One hazard is emptiness / boredom in the world. As a tween, I actually had fun exploring #WiiSportsResort’s Wuhu Island in the aircraft, but it was sparse. Even some AAA games on the HD twins suffered from this (e.g. the excellent #ResFactionGuerrilla). I hope there are cool things to discover and do in the world. I could conceivably see myself getting this at launch and searching through the world, enjoying myself, and it would motivate me to play the classic Cups as well (it has somehow been 11 years since MK8 released, and I didn’t spend as much time on it as I was starting college at the time). I didn’t think I could actually feel hype for a Mario Kart game again. Kudos to Nintendo for the fun, here’s hoping it’s as cool as it looks. I’m not the biggest fan of adding racers and widening the roads as these racers feel slower and slower to me as a result, but it does fit with the open world element. Let’s see what Nintendo pulls off. It’s typically a double edged sword with them; they do new, innovative things, but neglect the staples others have evolved in the genre (e.g. open world, online multiplayer, etc.). They have a tendency to go “lite” but with their own special touch. We’ll see.
Edit: There are so many games to learn from, such as #BurnoutParadisr (which is old as sin). Will Nintendo find the right balance between modern expectations and their secret sauce? This is always the question.
